Steamship (SS) Shieldhall
The SS Shieldhall was completed in 1955 and was in service with Glasgow Corporation from 1955 to 1976. Her role was to take treated sewage (sludge) from Glasgow for dumping at sea. She was also licensed to carry passengers. In 1977 she was purchased by Southern Water to perform a similar role for Southampton Corporation. She was later purchased by a Preservation Society and is maintained to this day by volunteers operating from Southampton. This image of her in her original Livery (now black and White) was captured in August 2009.
