Hamble Lifeboat.
I visited Calshot Southampton on the 15th August 2019 to photograph the departure of the Ex P and O Cruise ship Oriana (renamed Piano Land) for the last time as she travelled to her new base in China. Whilst I was waiting at Calshot, I discovered that Piano Land's departure had been postponed (for reasons unknown to me) to the following day! One consolation was that I was able to photograph the Independent Hamble Life boat for the first time. This image shows the lifeboat returning to the Hamble having entered Southampton Water from the Solent. The Hamble lifeboat service was created in 1968 and is operated by volunteers. Entirely self financed through fundraising events and donations, the lifeboat operates in the River Hamble, Southampton Water and the Solent. There is information available on the Internet about the Hamble Lifeboat Service and the creative ways in which its volunteers and supporters have raised funds to keep the service operational.
