Sir Galahad L3005.
I was very lucky to have been able to see and photograph a number of the Round Table Class of Landing ship Logistic vessels before they were taken out of service and replaced by larger vessels. They always reminded me of the type of Military and Naval vessels that I saw during my service in the British Merchant Navy in the 1960s. My regret is that I did not photograph them when I had the opportunity.
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Landing ship Logistic (LSL) Sir Galahad L3005 featured in this image was the second vessel to carry that name, the first having been sunk during the Falklands War in 1982. This Sir Galahad was built in the United Kingdom by Swan Hunter in 1986, brought into service in 1988 and saw service during the Gulf War in 2003. After that she remained in service with the RFA until 2007 when she was sold to the Brazilian Navy.
This Image of Sir Galahad was captured in April 2006 when she was motoring in Southampton Water Southampton in-bound for the Marchwood Military Port.
