RNLI RIB Launch.
This image which was captured in September 2005 from the shingle beach at Calshot Castle Southampton shows a member of the Calshot Lifeboat station’s crew lowering a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) in order to travel the short distance to where the Station's large all weather lifeboat was moored. When the updated RNLI station at Bembridge on the Isle of Wight became fully operational around 2010, Calshot Lifeboat station lost its larger boat and now only launches a B (Atlantic) Class inshore lifeboat. This image therefore shows an activity at Calshot that has passed into history.
