I have travelled to East Cowes Isle of Wight on Red Funnel car and passenger ferries on many occasions over the years but it is uncommon in my experience to be on a ferry and berthed at East Cowes and to be able to see and photograph small cargo ships travelling up or down the River Medina. One such occasion was in April 2010 when I was able to capture this image of the General Cargo ship Windena navigating up river.
The 1720 Gross Ton Windena was built in Holland in 1979 and when this image was captured was Registered in Sweden. Over the course of her maritime career she has been named Menna, Erna, Windena, Martha, Maria ands Brostar. More information about her life and career can be found on the Internet using her IMO number (7516694) as the search term.
