There are may exhibits in the museum that give a strong feeling of what life on board might have been like but this list of the daily rations for each member of the crew perfectly illustrates how diet and food consumption have changed over almost 500 years. Five a day then seems to relate to the amount of beer in Litres consumed each day. No doubt the drinking water on board (if there was any) would have been positively dangerous to consume!
