I first saw RRS (Royal Research Ship) James Cook in 2007 shortly after she came into service and even though I have seen her berthed in Southampton many time over the intervening years, I had to wait until August 2017 before I was fortunate enough to photograph her when she was underway. She was built in Norway, has a complement of 9 officers and 13 crew and can carry up to 32 scientists. She is registered in London, has a displacement of 5800 Tons and is operated by the National Oceanography Centre based in Southampton. In this image she is sailing down Southampton Water having departed Southampton. I have no idea as to her destination.
