My past attempts to photograph birds in flight have usually ended in disappointment. Failures have included no bird or partial bird in frame together with poor focus or motion blur. This image of a Black Headed Gull captured from the Moat Wall of Calshot Castle in late April 2021 is an exception. I freely admit that the image owes more to the incredible bird eye detection auto focus and high shutter speed performance of the Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera than to my ability. Still it shows me what is possible with practice and persistence.
