Iona Maiden Arrival

This Sub Gallery contains images of the P and O Cruise Ship Iona captured on the 16th May 2021 which was the date of her Maiden Arrival at the Port of Southampton. The 184089 Gross Ton Iona was built in Germany, is Registered in the United Kingdom and is powered by Liquid Natural Gas in order to reduce environmental pollution. All of the images contained within this sub gallery were captured from the Moat Wall of Calshot Castle Southampton. Unfortunately the weather at the time of Iona's arrival at Calshot was absolutely atrocious with high winds, very dark clouds and a heavy downpour of rain. At any other time I would have left my cameras  in the car! However a Maiden Arrival of a new Cruise ship at her Home Port only occurs once in her lifetime so I had to protect my equipment from the rain as best as I could and rely on Canon's claim that my cameras and lenses are water resistant. Surprisingly, despite the weather there was a very good turnout of ship enthusiasts to welcome her to Southampton for the first time.
