Images from my time as a Radio Officer in the British Merchant Navy. Sadly the few photographs that I took back then were taken without the benefit of a light meter and were recorded in the main on poor quality Perutz, 35mm slide film that suffered over the intervening years from neglect on my part which allowed deterioration from mould due to poor storage arrangements. The better images were taken on Ilford or Kodak slide film. Even with the best efforts of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, the Perutz images remain poor. The shipping company I worked for (Thos and Jno Brocklebank Ltd), the type of ships that I sailed on (Cargo Liners), the methods of handling cargo as well as the role of Radio Officer, have all passed into history.
