Calshot Spit Light Ship
Deployed from 1914 until 1978 off Calshot Spit in the Solent, the Calshot Spit light vessel (LV78) was deployed to warn shipping of the dangers to navigation at Calshot and to guide flying boats to their berths. When removed from service in 1978 she was originally displayed at Southampton's Ocean village but years later relocated to her present location which is adjacent to Southampton's Ocean Terminal. This image shows her at Ocean Village. There are plans to restore her and make her a visitor attraction at Southampton's docks.
