No Man's Land Fort.
There is a great deal of information on the Internet about the origins, history and current re-purposing of the Palmerston Forts that were built during the Reign of Queen Victoria to protect the Solent from invasion by the French Navy. Maybe to the relief of many, I do not intent to repeat any of that here. The No Man's Land Fort seen here was one of these defensive structures. This image was taken from the deck of the Steam Ship (SS) Shieldhall in July 2021 and shows the Northern aspect of the No Man's Land Fort that faces the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour. The land in the background to the image is part of the northern coastline of the Isle of Wight.
