Manaar's Carpenter (Chippy).
This image of the SS Manaar's carpenter was captured in the Indian Ocean in 1966. Ship's carpenters were time served, highly skilled craftsmen who may well have served their apprenticeship in the UK's shipbuilding yards. In this image, chippy (whose name I cannot recollect) is doing rope work on the top of the hatch cover of Manaar's number 3 hold.
