CMA CGM Colomba.
In all of the many years I have been visiting Calshot Southampton to photograph ships, I have never before thought to capture an image like this of a vessel that had just entered the deep water Thorn navigation Channel. My camera position on this occasion was close to a public slipway located near to the Calshot Activities Centre which looks up along almost the entire length of the Calshot Spit shingle bank. The shot brought back memories of ships passing each other behind the sand dunes of the Suez canal which I saw back in the 1960's. However I also remember that Egypt was generally much hotter than the Solent in the month of April!
The ship in the image is the 131332 Gross Ton containership CMA CGM Colomba that was built in South Korea in 2010, is Registered in Malta and is owned and operated by the shipping company CMA CGM of Marseilles France.
