Grande America.
My choice of an image to upload to this web site is often random but guided by a desire on my part to keep the selection of the type of vessel interesting. Only after choosing this image of the RoRo/vehicle carrier Grande America and doing an Internet search using her IMO number (IMO 9130937) did I discover that 12 years after I saw her for the first and only time, she caught fire and subsequently sank when she was motoring across the Bay of Biscay, 180 miles off the French Coast. This occurred in March 2019. There is a great deal of information on the Internet about her loss and the rescue of all of her crew by the Royal Navy.
This image like the other image of her that is displayed in this Sub Gallery was captured on the 14th September 2007 from the moat wall of Calshot Castle Southampton.
